OBSERVATIONS

This weekend was very fun!  Other than the fact that I am getting over being sick (not sure what exactly I am sick with though), I enjoyed this weekend.  On Saturday we went to this city called Kutna Hora which is about an hour and a half outside Prague.  Not only was it snowing!!!! and beautiful, but the sites we saw were very interesting.  We went into an old church, the place where they make coins (watched someone making them), an old dungeon, and of course the skeleton church!  The skeleton church was not what I was expecting, but still very unique.  It looks like a normal church from the outside, and then you go in and find close to 40,000 people worth of skulls, bones, etc. all displayed in artistic fashion- including a chandelier.  Once we got back from there we were all pretty tired and called it a night.  On Sunday, my friends and I went to Bohemian Bagel for breakfast (a little taste of home), and then walked around the city in the snow!  We found a great vintage Czech jewelry shop, and I bought a couple great things!  We then made friends with the salespeople, and are going out with them tomorrow night, could be interesting.  They referred us to a bunch of great little boutiques that we will make our way to in the next few weeks!  Then, we cooked Tacos which turned out surprisingly great!

So, today was the first day I decided to pay attention in my Czech class, and what do you know?  I learned a thing or two.  I have realized that in order to get a C- which is all I need, I do still sort of have to pay attention.  This is a new concept for me haha.  After class, my friend Kate and I walked around the city for about 3 hours, just doing errands and walking into shops that looked interesting.  There is definitely not a lack of fun and interesting places to shop in this city.  After lots of walking, a group of us went to a sushi restaurant for dinner, YUM!  It was actually good.  I was very skeptical going into it, but I will definitely be going back now.  Tonight is another low key night, since I expect the rest of the week to be late nights, especially since Grace will be here visiting starting Thursday!!

To add a little humor or whatever you want to call it to my blog, here are a few observations about Czech people that I have made so far: (I hope none of them are reading this!)
1.  PDA is no big deal here, people are making out left and right, allll over the place
2. they don't shower, they "shub," which basically means they don't really have showers, they have open bathtubs that have little hose things that you spray yourself with--no wonder a lot of them smell bad!
3. They do not smile ever!  This could be because most of them have terrible dental hygiene and never heard of braces...who knows
4. Fashion is not on their radar- my Czech professor wore the EXACT same thing every day last week.  The outfit consisted of: a black button down corduroy skirt, a red tank top, orange sweater, red jacket, red hat (red hair), black tights under rainbow-ish striped knee high socks, and these black boot things.  She is a nice lady though, so can't complain.
5.  Every single person has a dog, and every single dog has its own wardrobe (oftentimes better than their owners).  To explain this dog epidemic, our professor brings hers to class everyday (we are learning how to train a dog in Czech, not sure if that will ever come in handy)

Ok, pictures up next! xox
